This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
