Paceman Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

Atkinson pulled up with his hamstring post-delivery that he bowled at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time away from the action in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle beginning on 4 January begins this coming Sunday.

The visitors have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, before adding 28 while batting as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of his spell, he bowled a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission of the third.
