Netflix Chooses Ideal Actor for Bon Clay in One Piece Third Season

Baroque Works is geared up to make a major impact in Netflix’s upcoming season of One Piece, even if the real showdown won’t take place until the third season, and a cherished, fan-favorite member has now been chosen.

The streaming service revealed this week that Cole Escola is now part of the One Piece cast for the third season and will embody Mr. 2. The role has the ability to transform into an exact copy of any individual they’ve touched with their dominant hand. The actor, who is identifies as non-binary and goes by they/them, will portray a rendition of that role reimagined as non-binary identifying, rather than as a drag artist, in the live-action series, differing from the initial comic and cartoon version.

This performer joins a number of recently announced actors who will portray Baroque Works to the screen, including chief the main antagonist, portrayed by the seasoned performer, a talented actress as another operative, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, who also joins the lineup as King Nefertari Cobra of the fictional land.

Though the role is a major member of Baroque Works, the character won’t make their debut One Piece the third season. With the next season likely to portray the Little Garden arc, this marks a notable change in the timing of their first appearance, one that could signal further changes to the plot development.

Their mix of sharp comedic timing and deep sensitivity makes them a standout choice for the part. Along with their current animated role in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they received high praise and several accolades for writing and starring in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, highlighting the range they’ll add to one of One Piece’s widely praised characters.

Netflix's live-action One Piece series is due to premiere for its next installment on March 10, 2026.
