Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
