The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in September and handed more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the move to detain the elderly politician was a safety action after recent developments were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, his son Flávio, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.
