Defiant Nancy insists he is not worried about the sack but the Parkhead faithful show anger following derby defeat.
The Celtic boss insisted he did not fear dismissal, claiming, “We are very near to a turnaround,” even after sliding worryingly close to the exit with a heavy loss to the Ibrox side.
A Second-Half Capitulation Sees Derby Disaster
The home side had led their oldest rivals at half-time but a disastrous second period let the Gers to draw level on points with the reigning league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was appointed from the MLS, has now presided over six defeats in his first eight fixtures.
“There is unity at the club,” stated Nancy.
Questioned about his own future, Nancy said: “That’s not my focus. I think about working out methods to aid my players to excel on the fine details.
Supporters' Anger Outside Parkhead
Hundreds of supporters voiced their fury – aimed at the dugout and directors – by protesting at Parkhead. Club directors are thought to be considering to bring back the interim manager, who steered the club during a caretaker period before Nancy was hired, if Nancy departs.
“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the situation for the moment. However when I say this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am pessimistic. No. The message is we are really close, really, really close to reverse our form.”
Focus on the Details
The coach continues to cling to the fact Celtic play well for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, but for wastefulness in front of goal they might have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit other than the fact that we missed more goals,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but it's important to stay objective.
“The standard we had at times was really, really, really high. That happened. I could not say that if it was different. That is the reason, when it comes to wins, I noted it's a repeating pattern. For that reason I believe we are nearly there to getting it right. Right now: the fine margins.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. But now it’s about sustaining it. My outlook would change the same. Therefore I firmly believe we will manage to get back on track.”
Opposition Reaction Stance
The victorious boss refused to contemplate a title charge even after what seemed like a huge result. “We take it game by game, so we can develop momentum,” he said. “The faith in the team is outstanding.”
