Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer behind many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
