Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players seeking different methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
